Paul Di’Anno, the former lead vocalist of Iron Maiden who fronted the band on their first two albums, has passed away at the age of 66.
He died at his home in Salisbury, UK, as confirmed by his longtime record label, Conquest Music, on behalf of his family. Di'Anno had faced significant health issues in recent years, which had confined him to a wheelchair, though he still managed to perform over 100 shows since 2023.
His final solo concert took place at Hype Park in Kraków, Poland, on August 30th.
Born in Chingford, East London, in 1958, Di’Anno cut his teeth in various rock bands before joining Iron Maiden in 1978.
His powerful mix of soaring vibrato and gritty streetwise edge shaped the sound of the band’s early years, particularly on their iconic first two albums, Iron Maiden (1980) and Killers (1981).
He also appeared on the Maiden Japan live EP before parting ways with the band in 1981.
After leaving Iron Maiden, Di’Anno continued his music career with projects like Battlezone, Killers, Gogmagog, and Paul Di'Anno's Warhorse, in addition to releasing several solo albums.
His most recent work, *The Book of the Beast* (2024), featured a collection of his solo material, including both original songs and re-recordings of tracks from his Maiden days.
